The Owners
Hello, we are Jayne and Andrew. We are both keen biologists and naturalists and met at Cambridge whilst studying for our PhDs. Our enthusiasm for the natural world led us to career paths in research, bio informatics and environmental education. We have travelled widely in the UK, as well as exploring the rain forests of Asia and South America and the savannah and wetlands of Africa. Our love of the West Highlands and passion for wildlife encouraged us to move to Moidart and set up a new life style promoting sustainable living and eco tourism.
We had been looking for a suitable home in the West Highlands for three years when we were lucky enough to chance upon The Old Chapel House with it's self catering log cabins. The restoration of the house and lodges has been a labour of love. Although hard work, the magic of the woods, wilderness and local wildlife never failed to inspire us. Every day has become a joy and an adventure. Moidart is truely a land of legend; great beaches, stunning scenery, iconic wildlife, romance, history, great walks, wonderful local produce and warm, welcoming people.
Remote, yet well connected, Mingarry Lodges is a great base for touring Moidart, Ardnamurchan, Fort William, Mallaig, Arisaig, Mull and The Small Isles. For the wildlife enthusiast we can offer intimate encounters with some of Scotland's most iconic species both close hand at the lodges and in the local area. Local wildlife include, pine martens, red squirrel, red deer, otters, sea and golden eagles, osprey, divers, dolphins, basking sharks and whales. For the walking enthusiast, we have a great range of local walks from the doorstep and some challenging climbs around Fort William. Immerse youself in the romance and history of the area by visiting nearby Castle Tioram, the former stronghold of Clan Ranald. Follow in the footsteps of Bonnie Prince Charlie as you explore the area.
To an exceedingly beautiful area, add superb hosts offering excellent accommodation with every comfort; a wide range of wildlife on your doorstep. Thank you.
